Automated
Systems
Rotary Automated Systems
• Cycle time remains constant but production increases as
the number of machines on the table increases.
- You don’t have to wait for the previous casting to solidify
and be ejected before you pour the next casting
- Pour a new casting with every index and eject a casting with every
index.
• Single pouring point
- Monitor metal characteristics in one location.
• Single eject point
- Maintain only one ejector
• Tables can be over 27’ in diameter
• Can incorporate a quick change and take entire machines
off of the table and put a new one on within the time between indexes
• Can put tilt pours, reverse tilt pours and static casts,
holding / treating furnaces, and even core machines on rotary tables
In-line
Automated Systems
• The same style machines are placed in a row and serviced
by at least one robot. For example one robot places cores, one robot
pours metal and one robot unloads the casting.
• Robots travel on rails to the different machines instead
of having one robot per machine or have in the machines move.
Quick
Change Automated Systems
• Quick change devices allow machines or tooling to be changed
within a short period of time.
• For quick change to work with little human intervention,
the equipment needs to be on rails. These rails allow correct align
ment every time the equipment is put on-line
- Machines can be taken off the turntable and a new one placed on
the turntable with out losing up time.
• By taking the machine off in station “A” then
indexing the table so that the empty location is at station “B”
and then at station “B” slide the new machine in place.
• By swapping machines in and out of production there is the
advantage of being able to attach the die to the machine and preheat
the die off line and bring it online and begin pouring without having
to waste shots on heating the cold die.
• The quick connections can supply air, hydraulics, water,
and
electrical power. Wireless Ethernet is used to communicate with
the moving machine signals.
